QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Kentucky Certificate with endorsements in teaching areas.
2. Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUPERVISES: N/A

JOB GOALS: To develop in each pupil an awareness of the role of science in economic and social progress; to motivate each pupil to acquire knowledge of scientific facts and principles.

Responsibilities Specific to Teaching Area:

A. Teaches skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in general science, earth sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, physiology, or science problems to secondary/middle school pupils, utilizing course of study outlined in the Kentucky Program of Studies and as adopted by the Board of Education.
B. Plans a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities for optimal learning.
C. Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids.
D. Instructs pupils in proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals, science equipment, and plant and animal life.
E. Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required.
F. Selects and requests books, instructional aids, science equipment, chemicals, and supplies; maintains inventory records as required.
G. Assists pupils in selection and development of individual research projects, if applicable.
H. Cooperates with school administration in providing science displays and programs for the school and community, and in sponsoring science activities.
I. Performs such other professional tasks (within reason) as may be assigned by the principal or Superintendent.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the superintendent and the Board.


EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
